Not since Tim McGraw released Live Like You Were Dying in 2004 has another male artist in country sold that many copies of any album in one week, and he’s one of two country artists to sell a half-million copies of an album in a single week since 2008. (The other is Taylor Swift.)
“WOW! I can’t thank you guys enough,” Luke tweeted in response to the massive sales. “2013 has been the best year of my career! Thank You!”
Luke’s first-week album sales have been bested this year only by Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience (968,000) and Jay Z’s Magna Carta…Holy Grail (slightly more than 528,000).
The latest chart topper follows the No. 1 debut of Spring Break… Here To Party earlier this year.
Both Spring Break… Here To Party and his Double Platinum 2011 album tailgates & tanlines still sit within the Top 10 on the country albums chart.
