Since Carrie Underwood’s trip down the aisle to marry her hockey husband Mike Fisher, she’s learned a thing or two about keeping nuptials on the straight and narrow.

The country megastar told CMT’s very own Alecia Davis her advice for future brides and grooms is to take it slow.

“If you can be engaged for a while,” Carrie says, “plan everything slow and take your first couple of years just to really hang out.”

While Carrie is nearing her third wedding anniversary, fellow Idol alum Kelly Clarkson has just begun to plan her wedding to Brandon Blackstock.

Kelly reveals in the new issue of People magazine the root of her dating disasters.

“I was dating skinny jeans and I needed Wranglers,” Kelly says.

Kelly’s taking Carrie’s advice and taking her time planning her wedding, which she reveals will be an “earthy” at-home fall wedding.
