Country music got in the middle of Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey last night on American Idol, and we’re not talking about Keith Urban.

Fans finally witnessed the all-out blow-up between the two divas last night during Idol auditions in Charlotte, N.C. It all started when 20-year-old contestant Summer Cunningham told judge Keith that she had “tried the country thing.”

“I’m always thrown off when people say they’ve ‘tried the country thing,’” Keith told Summer. “It’s like saying ‘I’ve tried the brain surgeon thing.’ You’re either a brain surgeon or you’re not.”

That’s when Mariah took over, claiming Summer was better suited for country music.

Cue Nicki’s retort and said blow-up.

“Why are we picking this girl apart?” a visibly frustrated Nicki said.

Mariah took the next jab, saying she was simply trying to help the contestant “as opposed to just talk about her outfit,” she said.

Nicki then stormed off the set, forcing producers to shut down the day’s remaining auditions.

American Idol heads to Baton Rouge Thursday night on FOX.
