The trio – and fans of PBS’s Downton Abbey – gave an exclusive listen to Entertainment Weekly and also explained the importance of the extra ‘w’ in their new single.
“I remember before I started watching Downton Abbey,” the band’s Charles Kelley says, “I kept being, like, ‘Why do people keep calling it Downton? They’re so proper!’”
The group may poke fun at the similarity in an upcoming Webisode Wednesday. But they nearly lost the song altogether from another country megastar.
Charles, Hillary and Dave told reporters recently Miranda Lambert planned to record the song but let it go when she learned Lady A loved it.
“Bless her heart – she let us cut it,” Charles says. “That just shows how tight-knit this town is.”
Lady A will debut “Downtown” Jan. 28 on The Tonight Show. Listen to the track exclusively via Entertainment Weekly here.
