Former American Idol judge Kara DiaGuardi is becoming a mom!

After fertility issues and multiple failed attempts with IVF treatments, the songwriter and music publisher is expecting a baby with hubby Mike McCuddy via a gestational carrier.

“We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate,” she says. “I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked.”

Kara reveals to People that son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy will arrive in the coming weeks.

Kara judged Idol during its eighth and ninth seasons.
