• Carrie Underwood to Star in NBC’s ‘The Sound of Music’

    Posted: Nov 30, 2012

Christmas is less than 30 days away, but Carrie Underwood’s already got her mind on the 2013 holiday season.

The country music mega star and actress will star as the iconic “Maria Von Trapp” in NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music based on the original Broadway musical.

Carrie hinted at new career adventures on the horizon for her in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.

“[It’s] something really different that would be out of my comfort zone,” she says, “a really wonderful thing to put on my ‘I did that’ list.”

Well, Carrie will do that when the live telecast airs sometime near Christmas 2013.

“Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” an NBC exec says. “She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.”

Carrie’s formerly starred in Soul Surfer and provided a Golden Globe-nominated song to the soundtrack of Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

No word yet on who else will star in the live broadcast of The Sound of Music.
