LeAnn Rimes Takes Tweeters to Court!
Posted: Aug 31, 2012
It’s all fun and games until someone gets tweeted…At least that’s the story of LeAnn Rimes, who is suing two women for recording a phone conversation they had with the LeAnn after they bullied the country singer on Twitter.
Court documents obtained by Celebuzz indicate Kimberly and Lexi Smiley “conspired to spitefully ensure that out-of-context excerpts of that recording would be disseminated to the public.”
California law states both parties must give consent to be recorded during a phone call, and LeAnn was unaware the whole time.
LeAnn made the phone call in the first place to try to make peace with the disgruntled tweeter.
The recording of the call has since went viral and was still online as of Thursday.
The documents filed in Los Angeles court claim the women’s actions caused the singer “emotional distress.”
A source tells People magazine the court case “are a part of, but certainly not the only reason LeAnn” entered an in-patient treatment facility to learn coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety.
