The names of who will fill the empty seat on American Idol have run the gamut, but who’s inching ever closer to officially nab the spot?

Buzz that Brad Paisley would be named the new AI judge has died down to make room for rumors Alanis Morissette will take the seat next to Mariah Carey.

The pop singer hinted that she was in talks to land a new role but didn’t confirm it to be Idol.

Reportedly, Alanis is nearing the end of the negotiating process and could be signing the deal very soon.

The singer first appeared on the show in 2010 to duet with finalist Crystal Bowersox.

Other new names thrown into the mix have been rapper Pharrell, Nick Jones and even Diddy.
