• Which Country Star Could ‘Idol’ Be Eyeing Now?

    Posted: Jul 28, 2012

With the likes of country boys Brad Paisley and Toby Keith rumored to be in talks to fill the last remaining seat on the American Idol judging panel, is the show’s best bet to throw some twang into the mix?

After all, American Idol isn’t afraid to go country. From everyone to Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery and all those in between, AI has produced some of the biggest stars in country music.

Show producer Nigel Lythgoe, who has country ties himself after producing CMT Next Superstar in 2011, told The Hollywood Reporter this week that “country is America.”

But the question is which country star is Idol is eyeing?

Reports that Brad Paisley will join the show are unconfirmed, and Toby Keith admitted in a new interview with Inland Empire Weekly he turned down the offer to join the panel alongside Mariah Carey, who is so far the only judge officially judging next season of Idol.

Miranda Lambert could be a good fit on the show, considering her hubby Blake Shelton’s found huge success as a coach on The Voice. But reportedly, Idol is on the lookout for a male to take the empty seat.

So perhaps Kenny Chesney would be a better option. He does, in fact, have a top-selling album and a headlining spot on the summer’s hottest tour alongside Tim McGraw. Kenny’s red hot.

Or would Keith Urban trump any other country contender? He’s the only option who has experience judging a singing competition. He judged Australia’s version of The Voice and hasn’t confirmed whether or not he will return next season. Is Idol next for Keith?

And then there’s country icon Garth Brooks, who is Scotty McCreery’s pick for the seat. Or maybe Willie Nelson? Shania Twain? Reba McEntire? Or country mega star and American Idol’s biggest winner… Carrie Underwood?
