DIERKS THANKS PRESIDENT’S SPEECH WRITER
Posted: Aug 26, 2009
After playing a show in Bristol, Virginia recently, Dierks Bentley met the assistant speech writer who is responsible for adding the reference to Dierks in the President Obama speech. “We were playing bluegrass until like three in the morning, and while we were all talking I found out he worked at the White House,” Dierks says. “I said to him, ‘I can’t believe Obama quoted me, that’s just so crazy.’ That’s when Nick Shapiro piped up and said, “Well I’m the assistant speech writer for the president, and I put that quote in there … I fell in love with your music in Austin, Texas, and I had to figure out a way to put that quote in his speech.” Dierks thanked him and later that night drove Shapiro and his girlfriend home in the tour bus.
